Do One Thing You Can’t Post

Can I challenge you this weekend?

Do one thing…

you can’t immediately turn into an Instagram Story.

I know.

Sounds illegal.

Hear me out.

Between the reels, recaps and “photo dump”, we’ve accidentally started measuring how good a weekend was by one question:

“Did I get content?”

Not,

“Did I have fun?”

Not,

“Did I learn something?”

Not even,

“Would I do that again?”

Just…

“Did I get the shot?”

We Need To Break Up With Content Brain.

You know exactly what I’m talking about.

You finally get to a nice restaurant.

The food arrives.

Nobody touches it.

Because somebody says,

“Wait, wait… let me get a picture.”

Fair enough.

One picture never hurt anybody.

Then…

The cocktails arrive.

More pictures.

The ambience?

Pictures.

The bathroom mirror?

Definitely pictures.

The sunset?

Pictures.

At some point, you’re no longer hanging out.

You’re directing a campaign shoot.

Here’s My Theory.

The best weekends are usually terrible for Instagram.

Because you’re too busy living them.

Nobody remembers to take photos when they’re laughing so hard they can’t breathe.

Nobody pauses an escape room to get the lighting right.

Nobody stops halfway through pottery class because,

“Guys… one Boomerang first.”

Life has a funny way of becoming more interesting the moment you stop trying to document every second of it.

This Weekend…

Collect experiences instead.

Act Your Age… Later.

Spend the day at Upbeat Recreation Centre or Rufus & Bee.

Remember when having fun didn’t require a reservation?

Go bowling.

Play arcade games.

Jump on trampolines.

Compete over absolutely nothing.

It’s surprisingly difficult to overthink your life when you’re trying to beat your friend at air hockey.

Turns out adulthood isn’t asking us to grow up.

Just to remember how to play.

Touch Grass. Literally.

Everyone keeps saying, “Touch grass.”

Well…

Here’s your chance.

Trade traffic noise for birds, trees and a canopy walk at Lekki Conservation Centre that’ll have you questioning just how much you trust ropes suspended in the air.

It’s peaceful.

It’s slightly terrifying.

And it’s a welcome reminder that Lagos isn’t all concrete and car horns.

Try A Shooting Range

Your brain deserves a different target for once.

Book a session at a shooting range and discover two things:

One, it’s much harder than it looks.

Two, focusing on one thing at a time is surprisingly therapeutic.

No phones.

No distractions.

Just you, your instructor and a target that doesn’t send emails.

Just Try Looking Ridiculous.

Take an archery class.

A salsa class.

A ceramics workshop.

An improv session.

Anything that makes you think,

“I’ve never done this before.”

There’s something strangely attractive about being a beginner again.

No pressure to be impressive.

Just permission to be curious.

This article isn’t asking you to delete Instagram.

Relax.

Post your pictures.

Tag your friends.

Upload the photo dump.

We’re not starting a digital detox movement.

We’re just suggesting something radical.

Live the moment first.

Edit it later.

Ask people about their favourite memories.

Nobody says,

“That burger changed my life.”

They say,

“Remember when we got lost trying to find that pottery studio?”

Or…

“Remember that random book club where we stayed talking until they switched off the lights?”

Or…

“Remember when I thought archery would be easy and nearly hit the wrong target?”

That’s the stuff.

Not because it was perfect.

Because it was real.

Your camera roll is full.

Your Instagram highlights are curated.

Your food photos are excellent.

Now go give your memory something to work with.

Because years from now…

Nobody’s going to ask how aesthetic your weekend looked.

They’re going to ask,

“Tell me a story.”

Make sure you’ve got a good one.

This weekend, try one thing you’ve never done before.

Not because it’ll look good online.

Because one day, you’ll be sitting at dinner telling the story…

…and that’s worth far more than a hundred likes.
